First biogas-powered Solaris Urbino Low Entry to go to Sweden
19.10.2007Solaris Bus & Coach from Bolechowo adds a further exceptionally environmentally friendly novelty to its product range - biogas-powered low-entry buses. The first ten vehicles of this kind are going to the northern Swedish city of Skellefteå. Delivery of the innovative Solaris Urbino 12 LE is to be completed by the end of the year 2008, while the first five buses will go into operation this year. The purchase value amounts to about 2.5 million Euro.In a Europe-wide public tender, Solaris‘ offer succeeded in prevailing over all competitors. Solaris Bus & Coach from Bolechowo will produce ten 12-meter low-entry buses to be powered by biogas, which develops as a side-product at the community waste utilization in Skellefteå.
This innovative drive variant brings with it further groundbreaking solutions - the gas tanks are mounted, lower than before, to the forward roof, giving the new Urbino a height of no more than 3.5 meters. In addition to numerous optional solutions, as requested by the client, the biogas buses for Sweden will be equipped with the so-called "Scandinavian package", which features, among other things, a floor panel heating, an additional heating and ventilation plant in the passenger area as well as in the driver‘s compartment, double glazing, additional insulation, silicone sealing of the door area, snow chains, and an automatic fire warning and extinguishing system.
Through the Skellefteå contract, Solaris‘ range of environmentally friendly vehicles is broadened by another promising variant - a biogas bus. As of next year, thanks to the Skellefteå shipment, a total of 21 Solaris buses can be found on the roads of Sweden. So far, Solaris buses are in operation in the three Swedish cities of Landskrona, Umeå, and Luleå.
